WP-jeanmann-COLORWhat is your creative mission?

Bringing a little love, truth and memory to the world, through the power of words in song.

What do you love about what you do?

I love that my music has taken me around the world. That my fans connect with my words/songs/themes. I keep working at my songwriting craft/art, to get better at telling the stories in a new and poignant, relatable way.

What have you learned from your successes/ failures?

To keep at it. And to keep it all in perspective. In the big picture, it’s art. The beauty, the frustrations, the nebulous aspects of the business. The hard work is so worth it for me.

How do you keep pushing ahead after a difficult challenge?

I dust myself off, breathe and move on. Beauty/learning is always around the next corner.

Have you ever encountered resistance from family, friends, or the world in general? How did you overcome those kinds of blocks?

Yes, and no. They don’t always “get” what I do, and how this is a constant work in progress, but very meaningful to me. I listen and keep going, learning.

How has your art and creativity healed you?

That is the key to the whole thing for me. I picked up the guitar in my mid 30’s (a late bloomer if you will). Dabbling with cover tunes in self-taught mode, my world took a big shift when my mother passed away three years later. That was the day the songwriter in me came out, and songs became my way to process life. A bonus was that complete strangers could relate to these words/experiences. Powerful.

What are your NFA Bullet points? What steps would you recommend for anyone who wants to kick some ass and get their creative dreams off the ground?

Start, do it, keep doing it and getting better at what you do. Practice. Listen with an open ear to what you’re putting out there and the feedback. It’s all about learning. Take your business role seriously. Participate with and SUPPORT your local music community, learn from them. Ask questions from people you see doing what you want to attain. People are usually happy to share their knowledge/road smarts. Be real, be you.
