What is your creative mission?
I’ve been hand crafting mixed media jewelry for 18 years. My current passion is re-designing costume jewelry from pieces handed down by generations and creating modern pieces to be worn and treasured every day.
What do you love about what you do?
It’s incredibly satisfying to facilitate a connection between generations. I recently made a necklace for a college bound student that was made from both her grandmother and great grandmothers pearls and vintage swarovski crystals.
What have you learned from your successes/ failures?
In both success and failure I’ve learned to trust my energy and creativity and it’s okay to be stubborn. I truly believe there is growth in failure and the more I teeter to failing the stronger and more confident I’ve become in all aspects of life.
How do you keep pushing ahead after a difficult challenge?
The only way I’ve been able to successfully recover from any set back is to spend time with myself. Self confidence to move forward in life can’t be gifted to anyone, it comes from within.
Have you ever encountered resistance from family, friends, or the world in general? How did you overcome those kinds of blocks?
I’ve been extremely fortunate to have been raised in an environment that has nurtured the importance to follow your passion. In adulthood I purposefully choose to spend time with people who share that same respect for each others space and ideals.
How has your art and creativity healed you?
When I’m stressed I find it extremely satisfying to work with my hands either hammering or sawing metal, cranking up the tunes like Led Zep, Buckley or Nina Simone. Art and music are my catalyst to a healthy mind and body.
What are your NFA Bullet points? What steps would you recommend for anyone who wants to kick some ass and get their creative dreams off the ground?
Be authentic, be weird, be your wonderful bad ass self.
”There is a voice inside of you That whispers all day long, ‘I feel this is right for me, I know that this is wrong.’ No teacher, preacher, parent, friend Or wise man can decide What’s right for you–just listen to The voice that speaks inside.” ~Shel Silverstein
