My heroes are people who shine, act and broadcast clear ideals that have shaped my personality and mission in life. Heroes don’t always save babies in burning buildings. Sometimes they simply show us courageous ways to live in the world. In one way or another, all of my heroes are Not F*ing Around.

Life on Earth is tough. No doubt. And although there aren’t any world wars these days, or plagues knocking out half the continent, this life is obviously not a twenty four hour picnic. There’s still tons of injustice and horror lurking just around the corner. You know what I’m talking about.

Using even a small part of your life to create something beautiful, something expressive, something meaningful, opens up giant cans of worms that other mortals don’t even bother thinking about. We, as creative sapiens, expose our hearts. We risk ridicule, criticism or worse— the possibility that no one even gives a shit.

We sweat blood, we open up, lay down cash money, stay up too late, and put ourselves in the position to fail. Again and again and again.

We do this because something compels us. Something that the outside world can’t really understand. It doesn’t always make sense. It’s hard to do. And it generally scares us. Yet in the moments, or months, or lifetimes, that we step into this creative heartbeat, we have the courage. And we take the risks.

Anyone who has ever dared to activate their creative core and expose it to the world knows what I’m talking about.

Every sapien who has the audacity to know herself, and express her depth in any creative way, is my hero. Because there are risks. There are rewards. But you gotta be brave as hell to tap into your soul, beauty and demons, express them in some kind of artful way, and let it go into the world.

Creative sapien, you are my hero.
